About the scholarship

The Students Helping Students Fund is an initiative created by students primarily funded by student-led fundraisers to help students in need. The Students Helping Students Fund seeks to provide support to meet students needs, especially in a time of emergency, including meal plans and other general welfare.

In 2023, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) at the U.S. Department of Education released a major federal report confirming that students in higher education are struggling to meet their basic needs. The study showed that 23% of undergraduates are struggling with food insecurity. The goal is to help prevent something such as food insecurity from impacting Clemson students' ability to thrive. The hope of the Students Helping Students Fund is that students can focus less on where their next meal comes from and other basic needs, and spend more time growing, learning, and thriving.

The number of students who can be served by the Students Helping Students Fund is subject to the availability of funds. Funding is awarded on a case by case basis, and factors that are considered include the student’s financial need, the nature of the funding request, and the availability of funding at the time the request is made. This funding does not have to be repaid. The fund is open to all currently enrolled and continuing students. Priority will be given to students with the highest financial need.
